Not all players that excel in poker are men. There are, in fact, a few women who play professional poker, and this will be the focus of our discussion. Let's take a look at some of the female professional poker players in the world.
Tiffany Williamson is a female professional poker player who was born in South Carolina. She participated in the 2005 World Series of Poker and placed 15th at the main event. She was featured in the celebrity poker talk show "Heads Up With Richard Herring" in 2005. Williamson is also an American corporate lawyer.
Annie Duke is a female professional poker player who was born on September 13, 1965 in Concord, New Hampshire. She did not finish attending graduate school to concentrate on playing poker professionally. Her brother, also a professional poker player, was both her coach and financier when she was still a beginner in poker. Duke is also a well-known author.
Vanessa Rousso is a female professional poker player and a law student who is a citizen of both U.S. and France. Her interest in poker started when she was only 5 years old. She was already a law student when she started joining several poker tournaments, including the World Series of Poker, the World Poker Tour championship event, and the Borgata Open. She has been featured in the television program "Poker After Dark."
Not a lot of people know that American actress Mimi Rogers is also a professional poker player. She started playing high stakes poker when she was still a teenager. In 2003, this female professional poker player entered competitive poker and eventually joined several poker tournaments. She was previously married to scientologist Jim Rogers and actor Tom Cruise, and currently to producer Chris Ciaffa.
Another actress who is also a female professional poker player is Jennifer Tilly. She is a holder of a 2005 World Series of Poker bracelet and the third placer at the World Poker Tour Ladies Invitational Tournament.
Female professional poker player Maria Stern had been traveling with her husband, professional poker player Max Stern, to different poker tournaments when she developed her own interest in such casino game. Stern started playing in 1991 and has started winning in tournaments since 1992. She resides in Las Vegas, Nevada and in Costa Rica with her husband.
Isabelle Mercier, popularly known as "No Mercy" in the poker world, practiced commercial law and worked as a poker room manager for the Aviation Club de France before opting to play poker professionally. She joined and emerged victorious in such poker tournaments as the European Poker Tour, the Masters Classic of Poker event, and the World Poker Tour.
Female professional poker player Annette Obrestad is from Norway and is recognized as the youngest poker player to hold a World Series of Poker bracelet. Born on September 18, 1988, she is known as one of the top online multi-table tournament players worldwide. Another major feat is winning $2,000,000 at the poker event called the 2004 Tournament of Champions.
